Mine automatically switched at 65, and went up.
The way social security works is the federal government created a special tax called a payroll tax that you and employer pay an equal amount towards. Then the politicians steal those taxes and spend them on other things. Oh yeah they call it borrowing and they have been doing it for 40 years and never paid a dime back. Now even if they stop stealing from the payroll taxes for SS, the receipts soon will be insufficient for the cost of the program. So they bat around ideaS like higher retirement ages or lower benefits. How about if instead they stopped sending our money to Ukraine and just about every other place in the world ( including our enemies), and instead PAY: BACK WHAT YOU STOLE FROM SOCIAL SECURITY RECEIPTS AND DIVERTED TO THE GENERAL FUND!!!! PAY IT BACK OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND THAT YOU GOVERNMENT THEIVES HAVE BEEN DIVERTING IT TO FOR 40 YEARS AND START BUDGETING HONESTLY!!!!
Bull! I have filled out forms twice just to get a copy of my SS card. It’s been two months and have not even got an e-Mail saying it will be sent!
Hello, I'd recommend contacting them directly to check the status of your request. Their phone number 1-800-772-1213. - Daniela R.
You pay into social security at your jobs and then when you retire, you get to collect that money you paid in. You also then get to have medicare/healthcare when you turn 65. Its all basically like a savings account. I don't know about disability as ive never been on that.
Thanks meats in Elmore ohio
I worked 10 and half years at tankea meats doing a clean up job this is Jason
Do I understand this correctly? Even if I'm NOT collecting Medicare or SS, I still have to pay for Medicare Plan B? What if I'm still working and have health benefits? Please clarify....Thank you
@BullDogDan1282 If you don’t enroll in Medicare when you’re first eligible or qualify for a special enrollment period to sign up later, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty, which is added to your Part B premiums for as long as you have the coverage. To learn more, read this article: spr.ly/60555YKQd or visit spr.ly/60575YKQ5. Thanks! Jodee R.
Going through divorce at 62 , I called and the ssa rep talked me into waiting. Glad he did ! Ended up signing on at 65 even though max benefits for me was 66 and 10 months. I believe you should wait (if you can) but sign on before you max out cuz you never know the future. Also keep working as long as you can even one or two days a week. Guys I know who are 10 yrs older than me and still working are doing much better than those who are not
I have been trying to sign up by phone but I never get a phone call. I call them and they said they tried but it didn’t go through. Why can’t they do it when I call on my appointment day? I called and asked if I could go into the office and they said no. I don’t remember my password and they sent me a temporary password and it did not work multiple times. My children have degrees in computer science. I need help, and they are not helping at all. I have another phone appointment on July 5, they did not give me a time. Any advice would be helpful.
We're sorry to hear you're having issues with your Social Security login, @joannelattanzio3476. Their website has helpful information about how to troubleshoot your password, you can try that while you wait for their call. Here's the link: spr.ly/60505esWe - DG.
You need to stop giving money to the democrat party.
Do you mean the Democratic Party?
Thank yoy
Welcome 😊
This is hard to do when you live by yourself, even if you have the correct materials.
1:58. However if you are not yet receiving benefits, you can apply for survivor benefits now and wait until later to take your own benefits, in order to maximize the amount, even if your own would be higher now.
All SS calculators ASSUME that benefits will be there for the rest of your life. This is a BIG assumption given that congress has NO plan to fully fund SS and the program is going insolvent in less than 10 years. All of this advice to wait long past 62 to get more money is risky. How can you make more benefits in the future if there are constant cuts in benefits and increases in eligibility age going forward? Not possible. Take SS as soon as you can before SS is gone.
I'm taking mine at 62. Tomorrow is no guarantee.
User cp you would recoup that money in age 85.
If I turn 62 next month can I just IDENTIFY as a 70-year old??
Are the rules similar to switch from SSI to social security retirement benefits ?

This is under AARP answers. 😂 We old
I have had two vitrectomy surgeries and I share my pre and post operation story because as much as I wanted info, when I was diagnosed, I mostly wanted to know what a person actually felt like… I felt so alone so I share my story to be there for others going through this ❤
Various demographic and social issues are important here, as well. I think there will be more opportunities for older people to work, especially for more educated and skilled workers, into the foreseeable future. I don't have a problem with working, but I do want to take time off to travel, before I get too old to do so. My parents are in their 80s and still live on their own, and my grandparents lived into their 80s and 90s. I'm in my early 60s and in fairly good shape. I haven't ever drank, smoked, or taken illegal drugs, so I should be able to hold up for a few more years, at least.
Your correct, demographic is a huge part and people are living longer. Go on that trip now don’t wait you don’t know what’s going to happen next week.
This was very helpful. I just got laid off and was forced to retire. I was not sure about collecting both SS and unemployment. This was very helpful and easy to understand.
I'm so glad that our video was helpful to you! Thank you for taking the time to share :-) - Janelle M.
Regards! You take the terrifying factor out of everything. Greatly appreciated
Can you tell me how I can get the off ledger accounting of my SS trust account?
You don’t qualify for social security until you hit retirement age. Your SSDI benefits kick over automatically the Jan after you turn 66. Well they did for me. I didn’t have to do a thing. If you are younger than 66,…you simply need to wait.
Tomorrow is not promised. By waiting 8yrs. that is 62 to 70 years. you lost already 8yrs., that is 96 months of benefit. At the age of 70, even if the amount is bigger, you do not know how many yrs you have to earn that. You already are behind or lost over $67200. And then inflation is to be considered. What you can get today, now is better than waiting 8yrs.
Great info! Thanks for this, helpful to reach people online now a days.
You are most welcome! We're glad to hear that you benefit from the info we share :-D - Janelle M.
pensions allow a survivor benefit, social security should allow the same. Should not matter what your own benefit is.
They call it "Double Dipping" and act like it's a crime of some sort! But they do give you $255 for burial expense! How generous, huh?
What happens to the old one? Do the numbers change? 🤔
Hi @hansalvarado4286, when you request a replacement for a lost or stolen Social Security card, the numbers don't change. You can check our article for more details: spr.ly/60595BAMT Requesting a new number is possible, but it is not easy, here we have more information: spr.ly/60505BAMp - DG.
It’s automatic switch….
Can you draw disability at age 75, if you have cancer?
Hi @sherryjones8047, cancer is listed as one of the impairments. Here you'll find more information about which medical conditions qualify someone for Social Security disability benefits: spr.ly/60505BWOg - DG.
This is one of the things I wasn't sure about your video helped me figure it out. Now I'll know what to do thanks!
Using your example, if I chose to start collecting at age 67; $1000/month, I would have collected $36,000 by the time I turn 70. Even if my payments are $240.00 more per month than they were at age 67, I would likely not recoup that money …even if I live to age 90. Am I missing something?
Hello, the Social Security calculator provides an estimate of your monthly Social Security retirement benefit, based on your earnings history and age. You can cccess the calculator here: spr.ly/6058eo2CM - Daniela R.

collect at age 62 smaller amount and longer claims, because you don’t know how long you gonna live aside from that the total amount amount you can collect from age 62 is more than if you wait to collect at later age … simple math😀
What guarantees are there that I will receive my money when I hit 65? Wouldn't it be better for me to invest that money from the day I started working? Sounds like you take money from me to give it to a boomer who didn't plan for retirement.
Same here man. I am only 15, I started investing recently. I work at a ware house and invest most of the income into market, and then 27% capital gains tax gets me, its bs.
Most important thing is sleep on time & dont take mobile/laptop n watch or do work in darkness,it directly affects retina, eat pineapple n dry fruits.
Social Security automatically switched me to retirement at 65.
Was going to say that
Me too
Shut up
